We're looking into backup power options for our very small (18 connection) water system, to maintain domestic water service if the power goes out for extended periods.  We have a very large central storage tank, so primarily need power for the 10HP booster pumps (we would not need to run the well pumps for any moderate-duration outage).

Has anybody found battery systems that might work in this situation?  Other options besides a diesel generator?
